A must for me !!

March 7th, 2012 (11:42 am)

A thing that i should practice!! Its def something i need to concentrate on !!

If you are my type then this link and blog entry which i pasted here would be a good help to try !!

http://blog.intercom.io/criticism-and-two-way-streets/

A post by Jason Fried titled “Give it 5 minutes” reminded me of a great technique I learned about from Bill Buxton. Bill is a Principal Researcher in Microsoft where his main role focuses on designing a company that permits great design to happen. As many have learned to their peril, it’s not simply a case of just dumping talent in a room full of Ikea furniture. In large companies you have to design the process that creates design. One key idea Bill advocates is an emphasis on exploring the solution space before iterating on a solution.

However having great designers each producing great solutions to a shared problem can cause conflict, if not managed correctly…

Exploring the Solution Space

Like Apple, Microsoft encourages their designers to create many different solutions to any given design problem. But picking an outright winner isn’t easy. It can cause arguments and standstills. The quality of resolution here defines the quality of the design process. Who gets to decide? Is it the loudest shouter? The most senior? The highest paid? None of these are correct by default.

When Does Your Solution Suck?
Every solution is great in some circumstances and terrible in others. Design debates are best settled by inviting everyone to present their solution, but also explain under what circumstances their solution is terrible. Finally they’re asked to explain under what circumstances their colleague’s solution would be better. This is what Bill Buxton refers to as walking on both sides of the street.

The person who demonstrates most knowledge about the shortcomings of their own solution and the benefits of all the alternatives is the best best equipped to make the call.

Less Time Arguing, More Time Designing

One surprising knock-on effect of this approach is a reduction in pointless design arguments. The ones that are rarely constructive, where people get offended and cling on to their own precious concepts. When everyone must be able to praise their colleague’s work and criticise their own work, inevitably a solution is agreed upon before a showdown is necessary. Also, by making a rule of praising alternate solutions and criticising your own, the discussions move clear of the realm of personal preference and bias. It’s simply a discussion of what is right, and when.

Design decisions should always be based on what’s appropriate for the task at hand. If you find your design is being beaten down, the best way to fight back is to counter with “Well, when would my design be appropriate?”. Conversely, before you take pleasure in destroying someone else’s hard work, first make sure that you can answer “When is this solution great?”.

The quality of critique decides the quality of design output. Giving it five minutes before you criticize certainly helps, as does learning to understand what it’s trying to achieve, where it would be right, and where it would be wrong.

Lastly, always remember the golden rule of critique: don’t be a dick

When tomorrow starts without me
And I'm not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me;

I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too;

But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.

I had so much to live for,
So much left yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible,
That I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays,
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
And all the fun we had.

If I could relive yesterday,
Just even for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you
And maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized,
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
Would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things,
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through Heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne,

He said, "This is eternity,
And all I've promised you.
Today your life on earth is past,
But here life starts anew.

"I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day's the same way
There's no longing for the past.

"You have been so faithful,
So trusting and so true.
Though there were times
You did some things
You knew you shouldn't do.

"But you have been forgiven
And now at last you're free.
So won't you come and take my hand
And share my life with me."

So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.

Thanks vinutha for posting it :)

Its republic day and the first thing that comes to mind is the parade @ National high school...The month of Jan used to be full of parade sessions and it was fun time as most of the classes were skipped ;) .. those were the days when missing class meant a very cool thing !!

Anyways this year myself and Vij visited the Lalbagh flower show . It was all of sudden i decided to visit the place .. she was excited to see the big rose garden !! It was around 4 in the evening and it was pretty crowded.. After the security checks at the entrance , it was time for me to click some beautiful flowers and some portraits of my love !! It was def worth the visit for many reasons .. The glass house was very well decorated and a nice concept of dancing flowers and flow of flowers attracted everyone ...

Dynamic DNS configuration for your home pc access on Internet

March 3rd, 2011 (09:05 pm)
Tags:

Follow these steps :

1. Create an account in dyndns.com .
2. Activate a free or paid account with them with a suitable domain-name
3. Now on the router at Home , configure the dynamic dns with the domain-name above and username and password.

This enables the dynamic dns lookup whenever the public IP changes on the router from your service provider.

4. Now create a firewall rule to allow traffic from outside to inside which is "Inbound traffic" to your internal home PC.

Note : Internal home pc address will be a private network Ip which usually will be in the range 192.168.x.x

5. Install WAMP or LAMP [ Webservers etc ] on your home PC and use it when you are out.

Had to test few things so noted this here..

Touch Screen Remote control with the preview of channels

March 3rd, 2011 (11:14 am)

Where would i like touch screen.. its not the TV or the Monitors but its the remote control.. Yup a remote control similar to Mobile phones with a video preview of the tv itself via bluetooth rdp or pc over ip kinda protocols b/w Remote and TV.

The usage for all these would be so easy to use and it will make it easier to handle , select channels store information via the user friendly remote tv set.

I hope thoughts from the tv set companies will be on these lines if not plz do consider this and it will make a great user interface ...

Moving forward the search is not a channel but its an information and surfing them should be easier , smarter and very efficient !!
